1. The Department

The Aston Villa Foundation is the official Charity of Aston Villa Football Club and prides itself in being innovative in its approach to the club being used as a ‘Force for Good’.

The Football and Education department is a fundamental strand within the Foundation and is critical in supporting young people to raise their aspirations and provide pathway opportunities into further and higher education, and employment in the sport and coaching sector.

2. The Role

As the Lecturer for the FdSc Sports Coaching and Development you will be responsible for the delivery of identified modules within the subject area. You will ensure that the teaching programme is effectively delivered in accordance with the Aston Villa Foundation’s strategy, policy and procedures and contribute to activities which will influence leading edge practice across sports coaching and development.

Working at Villa Park and Birmingham City University you will be responsible for the teaching, supervision, and assessment of students through their academic elements, field trips and, where appropriate, work placements.  In addition, you will be responsible for module design and ensure that they comply with nationally recognised quality standards and regulations.

You will be responsible for working alongside the Aston Villa Foundation departments and Birmingham City University to plan and develop ‘guest lectures’ using staff across both institutions to complement the existing Foundation Degree programme.

Finally, you will act as a personal tutor, providing pastoral care to all student, one-to-one support and be respectful of the individual student needs and circumstances.

3. The Person

We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Lecturer with a first degree or higher, and relevant teaching experience across Sports Coaching, Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Science or equivalent. 

You will need to demonstrate a breadth of knowledge across the sector, be able to develop teaching programmes and be able to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. 

You will have excellent communication and listening skills and given the need to engage students, strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to build relationships individuals from a range of backgrounds.
